Heavy Metal
Heavy metal music (often referred to simply as "metal".) is traditionally characterised by loud distorted guitars, emphatic rhythms, dense bass and drum sounds, and vigorous vocals. Common themes in heavy metal lyrics are sex, violence and the occult. The sexual nature of many heavy metal songs, ranging from Led Zeppelin's suggestive lyrics to the more explicit references of latter-day nu metal bands, derives from the genre's roots in blues music and its frequently sexual content.
