Euro-dance is a subgenre of electronic dance music originating in the early 1990s in Europe. It combines many elements from house, hip-hop and Hi-NRG music. Euro-dance music is heavily influenced by the utilisation of rich melodic vocals and to a lesser extent, rap. This is combined with synth, strong bass rhythms and melodic hooks. Although a nightclub-oriented music, it sounds commercial enough to be played by radio stations and music television. Some of the more prominent Euro-dance songs do go international, especially if an act manages to score more than one hit. Some examples of original Euro-dance acts are 2 Unlimited, Cappella, Captain Hollywood Project, Centory, Culture Beat, Dr. Alban, Fun Factory, Maxx, La Bouche, Le Click and Real McCoy. The 2000s saw renewed interest in Euro-dance, with groups such as Milk Inc., Merzedes Club, Infernal, Special D, Groove Coverage, Cascada, Sylver, Danijay, Colonia, and solo artists such as Kate Ryan, Gabry Ponte, DJ Aligator, Ashley Jade and Lucas Prata and Kylie Minogue. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]()
