Traditional Country

Traditional country (initially referred to as honky tonk music) is a genre of country music popular in the late 1950s and 1960s in Texas, and is best represented by the acts of Ernest Tubb, Ted Daffin, Floyd Tillman, The Maddox Brothers and Rose, and Hank Williams.

It is a type of stripped down and raw music with a variety of moods, and a basic ensemble of guitar, bass, dobro or steel guitar and later, drums. East Texan Al Dexter had a hit song with "Honky Tonk Blues" and seven years later, "Pistol Packin' Mama".
