Delta blues is one of the earliest styles of blues music originating in the Mississippi Delta in the United States. Guitar and harmonica are the dominant instruments in delta blues, and the vocal styles range from introspective and soulful to passionate and fiery.
The first delta blues music was recorded in the late 1920s. Early recordings consist mostly of one person singing and playing an instrument, though the use of a band was more common during live performances. Artists who have performed delta blues include Willie "Big Eyes" Smith, Skip James, David Honeyboy Edwards, Sam Chatmon, Tommy McClennan and Arthur Crudup.
