'Musik der Fruhen Jahre' by The Early Years
21 August, 02:24pm by matthewhirtes | comments (0)

David Malkinson, Roger Mackin and Phil Raines share the sort of names you'd imagine more suited to an accountancy practice than the world of music. Yet as The Early Years, they look to continue where the likes of Spiritualized left off. Drones and feedback is where they're at.

On 'Muzik Der Fruhen Jahre', they displayed a love of the Krautrock of Can and Neu!, along with at least once GCSE between them in German. MTV2 staples, they've also won the patronage of Radio One's Huw Stephens and Steve Lamacq, as well as XFM's John Kennedy. Although amateur Amazon reviewer JonJohn worried that this self-titled debut album was destined to "become the unsung hit of the year."

Whether JohnJohn's concerns would prove overly cautious or not remains to be seen. It's, of course, early days. For The Early Years.
